False Creek South

False Creek South

Home to Granville Island and Olympic Village

Welcome to False Creek – home to Granville Island, the Sea Wall, Charleson Park and one of the friendliest communities in the city. Bound by 6th Avenue to the south and the water itself to the north, the majority of the residential section of False Creek has limited access for cars, making it surprisingly peaceful for such a central location. Granville Island, with its many galleries and Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, has drawn a large artistic community to the area. Retirees also enjoy the convenience of the “”pedestrian”” lifestyle, as so the many young families who have made this their home. The jewel in the crown is Granville Island Public Market equally used and enjoyed by both locals and tourists alike. East of Cambie Bridge lies Olympic Village, aka South East False Creek. From a faltering start after the 2010 games, this community is now really coming into its own with new stores and restaurants opening every month.

The Market

The City of Vancouver retained the freehold interest to the much of the land in False Creek. Some of the leases were pre-paid originally by the developers – some were not. Many of the lease payments are under review in the next few years and the leases themselves expire between 2036 and 2046, so do your research. Freehold options West of Cambie Bridge are limited and therefore in high demand. ¬†Olympic Village is also on freehold land. The smaller non view suites here have stiff competition from the multiple¬†new towers going in to the South and East of “The Village” itself, but there will be little to match the larger Waterfront view suites anywhere in the city.
